Prince Charles

Royal renewable energy

A royal house is going to make its own electricity.

Prince Charles has been given permission to put solar panels on the roof of his home, Clarence House.

The Prince’s application had to go through planning discussions at the local council. Because of the height of the roof and the panels’ position they won’t be seen from the ground so won’t affect the look of the building.

The solar panels cost £30,000 and are being paid for by the Prince. Some of the electricity made will be sold back to the National Grid, so making him money.

Prince Charles is very keen on being environmentally-friendly. Bath and shower water at Clarence House is used to water the plants.
