Reading Champion: Cameron Henderson-Begg

Everyone knows a Reading Champion – they’re people who inspire others to get reading. Each week one of our champions tells you a bit about their favourite reads and what they think makes reading so appealing.

Name: Cameron Henderson-Begg

Cameron is an editor for Spinebreakers, Penguin’s online gathering point for book-lovers, as well as an amateur flautist with a love of writing.

Favourite reads:

“I’d always recommend The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because it’s frankly the most hilarious thing ever written. And then, on the more serious side of things, there’s His Dark Materials – Pullman’s skill in creating an entire parallel world is phenomenal.”

Cameron says:

“Why read? Well, it’s a better use of time than watching C.S.I. all day! More compelling, too. If no-one read, no-one would write and if no-one had written we would never have gained so much – from philosophy to Shakespeare to all those evenings spent on the sofa just turning pages.

“The best thing about being a member of Spinebreakers are the reviews. A review needs to be a self-contained piece, as entertaining as what you’re describing, or no-one will read it or the book – being given the opportunity to play with words, as you have to for a review, is huge fun. Why don’t you express yourself at www.spinebreakers.co.uk too”
