Rare 'Rio' parrots hatch
One of the rarest animals in the world is the star of a new animated movie called Rio.
Rio tells the story of the critically endangered Spix’s macaw, which are extinct in the wild. Just 78 of the animals remain in captivity and these are not on display to the public but are part of a breeding programme to try to help save the species.
Loro Parque Foundation on Tenerife is one of the five breeding centres in the world, successfully hatching six Spix macaw chicks since 1990.
