Rare butterflies back in the UK
One of the UK’s rarest butterflies has been seen in Essex and Kent, areas where it was once extinct.
The pearl-bordered fritillary, which is a woodland butterfly, has been seen in record numbers this year after successful reintroductions because of a plan by Butterfly Conservation, the Forestry Commission and the RSPB.
More than 250 butterflies were spotted in Abbotts Wood in East Sussex this year, which is great news for the progress of the species.
