Proposals made to use laser pistols in the pentathlon

The pentathlon could change quite drastically if plans to use laser pistols go ahead.

The man in charge of the sport, Klaus Schormann, said this week that replacing air pistols with the new guns would be cheaper and safer.

The laser pistols will be tried out at several events this year, including the first ever Youth Olympic Games.

Schormann said that the lasers will be totally safe and will not damage people’s eyes.He also said that they would make the sport easier for people who live in countries like the UK, where laws on guns are very strict.

If the trials are successful, the guns could be used at the 2012 Olympics.
