Pea-sized frog found

A 'baby frog' has turned out to be a whole new species!

A frog, once thought to be a baby frog, has been found to be a fully-grown tiny frog.

The frog measures between 10.6mm and 12.8mm long and has been nicknamed the pea-sized frog. Its actual name is Microhyla nepenthicola and it is the smallest frog ever to be found in Asia, Africa or Europe.

The frog itself is known to experts. It’s just that they thought it was a baby of another frog.

The teeny frog was found by Indraneil Das in Borneo, South East Asia. Das said: “I saw some specimens in museum collections that are over 100 years old. Scientists presumably thought they were juveniles of other species, but it turns out they are adults of this newly discovered microspecies.”
