Parents' drinking worries you
Nearly one third of you are frightened by adults drinking alcohol, according to new research. What do you think?
In a survey by Childwise for CBBC’s Newsround, 1,234 children aged ten to 14 were asked for their views on adults and alcohol.
Half of those asked said they had seen their parents drunk and 30% said that they were scared when adults drank. Yet only one fifth of the kids who took part in the survey said they would not drink when they were older.
Eight out of ten young people said they had noticed a change in adults’ behaviour when they had been drinking. Of these, a quarter said adults acted “stupid or silly” and 17% said they “became dizzy and fell over”.
Sixty per cent of those asked said they would drink alcohol when they’re older. Research director at Childwise, Rosemary Duff, is worried about these findings.
She says: “Each generation takes their cues from their parents and, if their parents are drinking more, it makes it easier for them to drink more.”

my dad is an alcoholic and he really scares me when he is drunk. i know im not going to drink when im older because i have been shown such a bad example by both my parents(they split up when i was 4)and im going o use that well, instead of just copying it because i know it is wrong.
