Pantomime criticised for naming the 'ugly sisters' after princesses Eugenie and Beatrice

A pantomime show of Cinderella has been criticised after it named it's 'ugly sisters' after the two Royal princesses.

Cinderella at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, Kent has been criticised for naming its ugly sisters after princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

People were very offended that the two princesses were being called ugly, and that the roles were played by men dressed as women.

They felt that it was particuarly mean as the two princesses are only 21 and 23 years old.

But Paul Hendy, who produced and wrote the show, said the jokes were not based on the Royal Family and should cause no offense.

He continued, “The sisters are indeed called Beatrice and Eugenie but the term 'ugly sisters' is never actually used in relation to the names…”

Princess Eugenie and Beatrice were heavily criticised for the dresses they wore to the Royal Wedding last year. Princess Beatrice later sold her 'ugly' hat for over £80,000 and gave the money to charity.

This has made a lot of people want to stand up for them.

What do you think about this? Was the pantomime wrong to name the villans after two real-life people?

My local theatre had the two ugly sisters named Beatrice and Eugenie. I didn't think it was rude, it was just funny!

That is pure mean. They obviously thought people would laugh, but I'm glad no-one found it funny. The princesses are very pretty, intelligent young women, and it's really upsetting and depressing being treated like that. Grow up Mr Hendy!
