Our school had an International day
Find out what happened on International day at St Cedd’s School, Chelmsford, Essex..
Last term, our school held an International Day.
All the students came in wearing international clothes, even the teachers and some parents! There was a great variety of national costume on display: Connie Kitchiner came in dressed as a cowgirl, while Hannah Watson and Holly Thompson dressed as Australians, wearing cork hats. There were even kimonos from Singapore and Japan and beautiful saris.
Normal lessons were cancelled and instead we did international activities. Everyone loved doing Japanese Taiko drumming and learning a Spanish song. We had special art lessons which we spent colouring three different pictures showing images of Holland, France and Great Britain. We also learned about Chinese food when we designed a Chinese food menu and learned how to use chopsticks. Some people even got to have a go at belly dancing and tai chi exercises, while others learned about Japanese tea ceremonies. Some of the parents painted mehndi, which is temporary henna skin decoration, in beautiful patterns on everyone’s hands. Samuel Farrow said it felt really tickly and cool when it was applied.
At the end of the day, everyone gathered together for an assembly, where everyone explained what activities they had done. By all accounts, the day was a huge success.
