Olympic effort for charity

Children at the Froebelian School, Horsforth, recently held a ‘bring & buy’ sale in aid of their sponsored charity, Paralympics GB.

The children donated unwanted toys, books and handmade gifts to be sold to raise funds for the charity. Kaitlin Smith, a Y6 pupil, and her mum, knitted scarves and made miniature clay animals to sell, raising a fantastic £45! ‘I love making the little animals’ said Kaitlin, ‘and the scarves are fun to make too’. Amazingly, considering how beautiful they are, the scarves take less than an hour to knit!

Each school year the Froebelian school children raise funds in all manner of different ways for a nominated charity and this year in mind of the 2012 Olympics they chose Paralympics GB. Mr Tranmer, the school’s headmaster said ‘By supporting the Paralympic athletes we can help with providing them with the preparation and resources they need to enter the 2012 games and give them that extra edge that could mean the difference between gold and silver. I am proud of the children’s fundraising efforts so far this year and we have even more fundraising events to come’.

Already the children have raised an impressive £2350.00 and the proceeds of the ‘bring & buy’ added another £180.00.
