The Serbian won 6-4 6-1 1-6 6-3 in 2 hours 28 minutes and produced some breathtaking shots in an all out attacking display against the world No. 2 Nadal. It is the first time the Spaniard has lost against Djokovic in a Grand Slam match having beaten him in their all their previous five meetings in major tournaments.

Djokovic has now won 48 matches in 2011 - and lost only one, to Roger Federer of Switzerland in the semi-finals of the French Open. His extraordinary form this year saw him secure the number one ranking after defeating Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his semi-final match, and the win over Nadal in the final put rest to any doubt that he is currently the best player in the world.

Djokovic had won his last four encounters with Nadal, but the Spaniard was still favoured as the likely winner going into the match having won his previous 20 matches on the grass of the All England Club.

The start of the match saw both players trade service games until Djokovic converted his first break point opportunity at 5-4 on his opponent serve to take the opening set. He then raced through the second set 6-1 before Nadal got back into the match by taking the third by the same score. 

A combination of uncharacteristic errors from Nadal and confident play from Djokovic in the fourth saw the Serbian take the set 6-3 and become the Serbian man to win Wimbledon.
