No Child Born to Die

No Child Born to Die campaign launched

I went along to the launch of Save the Children’s new campaign ‘No Child Born to Die’ as their youth ambassador, on Monday.

The aim of the campaign is to stop children dying from really simple things like diarrhoea or pneumonia.

While they’re not serious problems in the UK, an upset tummy for a child in other parts of the world can mean they die. This is because the poorest children don’t have access to the injections that will protect them.

Save the Children wants people to realise that we were all born with a purpose, with dreams and goals and skills – and that every child should survive to achieve these.

The launch of the campaign had tonnes of famous people who were all asked what they were born to do. I met Alexandra Burke who was really nice and posed for a picture with me (right). She said she was “Born to Believe”.

No Child Born To Die

In my role as youth ambassador, I was asked to come onto the stage with the news reader Natasha Kaplinsky who asked me what I was born to do – I said I was “Born to Question” as I have to know and find out about everything!

We also watched a short film promoting the campaign. It’s really sad but also very powerful and definitely makes you want to help.

Darcy Bussell was “Born to Dance”, Usain Bolt was “Born to Run” and Simon Cowell was shown telling the camera he was “Born to be Right”!

Save the Children wants to know what all First News readers were born to do.
