My Scottish holiday, by James Walker

For my last holiday I went to Elie in Fife, Scotland with my family. We drove there from our home in Manchester and avoided the volcanic ash cloud.

Our rented house was overlooking the mile long sandy beach. It was really clean with no litter at all. We made camp fires from bits of wood we had collected through the day and toasted marshmellows on sticks over it. We also went sea kayaking and enjoyed the thrill of the surf.

The beach was a great place for playing family games – my grandma loved playing cricket! When the tide went out I fished in the rock pools and found crabs, shells and lots of jellyfish. Finally as the sun went down I watched the grey heron flying across the bay. It was definitely my best beach holiday.

I’ve included some photographs from the holiday with my younger brother Alex, my grandma and nanna. I’ve been getting the paper for two years and it’s the first thing I look for when I get home from school on a Friday. I read it whilst my dad reads his paper on Saturday morning!
