Most children have been bullied

Hundreds of young people from schools across the UK were in London on Monday to mark the start of anti-bullying week.

Around 300 schoolkids were at a special conference to talk about why they want to tackle bullying. Some of the young people were bullying victims themselves.

Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts was also at the event, organised by the Diana Award charity. She has been bullied herself and has found that many fans experience it too. She has asked for a meeting with the Government’s Education Secretary, Michael Gove, to talk about how bullying can be stamped out in our schools.

The idea of anti-bullying week is to encourage young people to talk openly about bullying and how to beat it. Figures show that seven out of ten children are victims at some point during their school lives.

An increasing problem is cyber-bullying, with nearly four out of ten teenagers saying they have been bullied either online or on their mobile phones. Abusive emails and text messages are the most common forms of cyber-bullying.

If you are being affected by bullying you can call ChildLine on 0800 1111 or go to www.childline.org.uk. Another place to get help is from CyberMentors, which is a website where young people aged 11 to 25 are trained to help other young people who are being bullied. All you need to do is log on and start chatting at www.cybermentors.org.uk. If your school has been involved in CyberMentors training, then there may be CyberMentors available to talk to you face-to-face if you’d prefer.

Why do they do it? There's no need and it just makes everyone feel horrible. :(

  • kicky105 (Age 12) wrote on Friday, 18 November 2011 @ 18:22

pipapip, have you told anybody? I was bullied twice but as soon as I told somebody, it stopped. Sometimes it will just be a joke that has got out of hand or sometimes they will have a reason such as being jealous or having a problem at home, so you would be helpign them by telling. If you haven't already, tell and things will get better!

It is plain pointless bullying but sometimes its not always a bully's fault, they might be bullied to.

I have been bullied (verbally and phisically). But I didn't do anything, it stopped when they left school. I think it is so sad most people get bullied. My school has anti-bullying week.

it is NOT right for people to bully others and in some cases it's because they are showing of to there friend how "cool" they are and other times the people just don't stop and think that is hurtful and others it is just that, that person is HORRID

  • woolrychi (Age 14) wrote on Saturday, 19 November 2011 @ 18:04

I think this is such a worthwhile cause and I am so glad that people want to stand up against bullying. Always try to stand up for someone who is being bullied or help them if you can :-) x

  • ketchup345 (Age 11) wrote on Saturday, 19 November 2011 @ 18:26

What makes people want to do such a thing? What have they done... Pipapip - are you ok?? What have they been doing?

  • fishbeth (Age 15) wrote on Saturday, 19 November 2011 @ 19:09

I wish that everyone could be treated equally and not bullied. The people who are bullies are horrible and should be punished. It makes the victim feel awful, so why do it?

I really feel pity for others who get bullied. I do not know why they bully other children. Maybe because of the reaction that the children have. I have been bullied before.

  • titanicfan (Age 12) wrote on Monday, 21 November 2011 @ 16:32

I've never been builled, but know people who have x if anyone here has been builled, then you should certainly tell someone or speak to someone you can trush - or even childline. i definatly know childline is good - i have talked to them before, they are really friendly and VERY helpful. my problems were sorted out!!! i am really against buillying!!!

  • redhorse10 (Age 14) wrote on Monday, 21 November 2011 @ 18:23

Millieboo, that's really Out Of Order what they did! I haven't ever been bullied and I don't think anyone will ever try it because I'm a lot taller than everyone else and there isn't anything for them to bully me about either. Don't forget to talk to someone if you have a problem. :)

I used to be bullied... In yr 3-5 like 4 kids used to hold me against the fence and kick and punch me. This went on for 3 years ='( i didn't tell... i started going to karate and then in yr 6 i beat up the kid who was the leader. I then got verbally bullied in yr 7-8 im in yr 9 now and still get bullied, just cos its an all girls school and im a tom-boy ='(

  • ketchup345 (Age 11) wrote on Tuesday, 22 November 2011 @ 17:43

PokemonKid, Don't let it happen!! Tell someone... I know its harder at secondry school to talk to the teacher or form tutor privately but you might have to if you want it sorted out. I was bullied in Year 4 but I told the teacher and they sorted it out.

  • zanadu (Age 12) wrote on Tuesday, 22 November 2011 @ 17:56

  • redhorse10 (Age 14) wrote on Wednesday, 23 November 2011 @ 10:11

Pokemonkid, although they did bully you it doesn't make it right to hurt them back... :|

  • shoeless27 (Age 10) wrote on Wednesday, 23 November 2011 @ 17:20

Bullies are just people who want/need attention. They've normally got problems of their own. I have never ACTUALLY been bullied.

  • NewsChik13 (Age 11) wrote on Wednesday, 23 November 2011 @ 21:13
