18 people have died from the cold in Poland. Most of the victims were thought to be homeless.

The Serbian Government have declared an 'emergency situation' in the country because of snowfall and extremely low temperatures. Around 70,000 people have been cut off from the outside world in remote villages and 5,000 kilometers (3,000 miles) of roads are impassable.

135 people have died in Serbia in the last 10 days - mainly due to alcohol abuse and the cold.
