Monkey thought to be extinct rediscovered in Borneo
A monkey previously thought extinct, or close to extinction, has been rediscovered in Borneo.
The incredibly rare Miller’s grizzled langur is one of the most mysterious primates known to man. The surprise discovery was made when the species was found living in a different area from where it was known before. The species was believed to have become extinct in 2004.
Borneo is the only place in the world where Miller’s grizzled langurs are believed to exist. Their habitat has been mostly destroyed by fires, the conversion of forest into farm land and other human interference.
At least nine species of primate live in the forests in Borneo, including the famous Bornean orangutans.
