Man 'scalped' in leopard attack

An Indian man called Hari had part of his scalp torn off when he was attacked by a leopard

The wild leopard panicked and attacked four people after accidentally getting caught in a busy residential area.

Another man managed to trap the leopard in a house before the feline was tranquillized and taken to Assam state zoo.

It took experts three shots of tranquiliser and 45 inutes to sedate the leopard.

Officials blamed crowds who gathered for scaring the leopard: "Our people need to be sensitised," said Surajit Dutta, director of the Kaziranga National Park. "You traumatise an animal like this and it will attack. You let it pass, while informing us, and it normally will. We can then get the situation under control as our people are trained to do this."
