Lots of adults don’t know about the endangered creatures in their own garden
More than a third of adults don’t know about the endangered creatures in their own garden! Would your parents or teachers pass the test?
A survey has shown that 36% of adults in the UK struggled to name a single endangered species in the whole of the United Kingdom.
The survey by YouGov was commissioned by conservation campaign Act for Wildlife. Sarah Bird from UK Wildlife said that the animals UK adults did recognise were the ones that get a lot of attention in the media, such as red squirrels, but there are many other creatures under threat. She said: “It is fair to say these results are worrying.”
Act for Wildlife wants to raise both awareness of the endangered creatures and funds so they can help to protect them.
For details of the projects that Act for Wildlife is involved in, check out their website: www.actforwildlife.org.uk.
If you want to test your parents or teachers, some of the endangered creatures that live in the UK are pictured above!
