London Zoo counts its animals
IT’s that time of year again when zookeepers across the country take part in the biggest animal inventory in the world, by counting all their animals!
This week, ZSL London Zoo will lead the way by counting every single one of their animals in their annual stocktake. Every animal, from the tiniest ants to the tallest giraffes, will be counted and measured.
The stocktake is one of the rules of every zoo licence and allows keepers and conservationists to keep track of all births and deaths in the zoological world. All the data is loaded onto one central database.
The job is no small one, as ZSL London Zoo alone has more than 16,000 animals!
ZSL London Zoo is open every day of the Christmas holidays, except Christmas Day itself.
