Life at a performing arts school

Life at a performing arts school

Boy gives run-down of life at a performing arts school, and talks of top drama roles.

I’ve been going to my performing arts school since I was eight and I really love it. Initially some of my friends from mainstream schools made fun of my ballet training. But they soon eased off when they realised just how hard I had to train.

A typical day for me begins with assembly at 8am, followed by three vocational lessons in the morning – Dance (Modern, Ballet or Tap), Singing, Music, Drama or Project Rehearsal.

After lunch, we change into school uniform and have academic studies until 4.30pm, followed by prep for homework. Home time is usually around 6pm to 6.30pm.

I’m so lucky, as through my school training, I’ve already worked with many of my heroes: like Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart and Kevin Spacey. My most recent performance has been playing Gustave in Love Never Dies at the Adelphi Theatre (pictured), which has been really exciting.

Performing arts is hard work but I love it.
