Liam Tancock and Rebecca Adlington both win world titles
Liam Tancock and Rebecca Adlington have both matched Keri-Anne Payne’s achievement and won a world title.
Payne won Britain’s first gold medal of this year’s World Championships last week, but it took until the last two days for any more gold to come GB’s way.
Adlington had to come from behind in the last 100m to win gold in the 800m freestyle, beating Denmark’s Lottie Friis to first place.
“Lottie is always such a strong competitor that I knew it was going to be a battle,” said Adlington. “I’m so glad I’ve added to my collection.”
On the last day, Tancock successfully defended his 50m backstroke title, finishing the final in the fourth fastest time of his career.
“I thought if they want to beat me, they’ve got to come and get me,” he said. “I did everything I needed to do, get in there, do a good start and take the race to them. I’m on top of the world.”
Adlington was the only GB swimmer to get more than one medal, as she also won silver in the 400m freestyle.
