LARGEST HUMAN OLYMPIC LOGO – New world record set in Guildford!

LARGEST HUMAN OLYMPIC LOGO – New world record set in Guildford!

Thursday 23rd June was certainly not a day I, or anyone else at my school for that matter, will forget.

Over 1900 school children, teachers from George Abbot School and Olympic figures such as the London Olympics 2012 mascots and athletes, joined on the school’s sport field to create the largest human Olympic Rings logo.

The heavy rain almost prevented the large overhead camera on a 50ft. pole from taking the picture; the weather stopped a spokesperson from giving his speech and inviting any of the athletes to say anything. But all 1900 of us managed to hold up the circular plastic mats representing the colours of the Olympic Rings.

But then it started to rain harshly, sending us fleeing into our canteens, shielding ourselves with our blazers and the coloured plastic mats. We were then informed that we had had just broken a world record!

We had beaten the previous world record set by China in 2008 which featured only 1,202 people.

Amongst the crowd of people surrounding the school’s Textiles Block, I managed to ask for an autograph from infamous kayaking athlete Rachel Cawthorn, and to pose for a photo with athletics champion Adelle Tracey. Sadly I could not get to Abigail Edwards (Kayaking), Sophia Warner (Athletics) or the Olympic mascots Wenlock and Mandeville.

I hold with pride the memory of the day my school made Olympic history!

I don’t think I will stop bragging about this spectacular experience for a long time!
