Kids speak out against animal cruelty
Pupils from Cronton C of E Primary, write to First News in response to our Special Report, Animals abroad.
Dear Ms Cox
I am writing on behalf of all the children in our school.
We are all very unhappy about the conditions circus animals have to live in. Circus trainers shouldn’t force animals to perform. We want to persuade your readers to agree with our point of view, to stop circuses involving animals.
Research shows that wild animals in circuses are captured from the wild by being hit by whips and clubs. Animals are cruelly pulled through the forest and more than half of them DO NOT LIVE!
When circus animals are captured they are often put in cages and taken away. It’s awful they are even taken away from their natural habitat. We all think it is inappropriate behavior to capture wild animals.
These animals should live a happy life by not being captured all the time and forced in to taking part in circuses. Most of the baby elephants watch their mothers being shot, and are often tied to their dead mothers. Do you want this to happen any more to these wild animals?
When circus animals are transported most big cats are kept in wagons for 90% of the time and dogs are locked in trailers. Elephants are shackled by their hind or front legs.
One circus promoter was fined £1,000 when he trapped a lion cub in a tiny cage. Consequently, the cub was found paralyzed. The majority of animals are tied to the ground or kept in small cages. Surely this should stop NOW!
The way circuses train animals is appalling. Circus owners burn bears front paws so they stand up straight, whilst the elephants get beaten with whips and clubs which gets them very hurt and stressed.
Children screamed and cried and families walked out when tigers were beaten with sticks. Surely your readers will agree with me that this is awful.
In conclusion, I hope I can persuade your readers, who share my point of view, to sign a petition to ban all circuses involving animals. These animals may be there forever but if we sort it, they will be free.
Yours Sincerely
Year 5, Cronton C.E Primary School

Certainly this cruelity must stop, how would the circus owner feel if he was in his house then taken away in a cage and then whipped. CRUELITY TO ANIMALS MUST STOP. THE END
