It's the year of the Dragon!

Thousands of people visited a lantern festival to celebrate the start of the Chinese Year of the Dragon.

Households set off fireworks on the eve of the New Year in order to drive away evil spirits. The dragon is the luckiest sign in the Chinese zodiac, as it is the only year represented by a mythical character.

Many couples will plan for their babies to be born during the Year of the Dragon as they believe it to bring wealth, wisdom, courage and power to the child.
