I visited the Greenwich Picture House cinema to see The King's Speech

Thomas Tallis Deaf Support Centre visited the Greenwich Picture House cinema to see The King’s Speech. Thanks to the manager, he had managed to get the film with subtitles which helps people who are profoundly deaf know what people are saying and is also helpful for deaf people who can hear a bit better.

My favourite part of the film is at the end when King George VI made a speech to the nation to say that Britain is at war with Germany, because it shows the king trying hard not to stammer when he is making his speech and he manages not to stammer. This made him feel more confident and also made his wife proud and emotional as well as his speech and language therapist.

Being deaf myself and having a speech and language therapist makes me feel more confident for my future when I start going out to work.

I have two ways of communicating which are talking and signing. The good thing with being deaf is that we push ourselves to carry on doing our communication lessons to get better.

The film tells people who are having no problems not to take the mickey out of people with speech problems.

You shouldn’t give up if you have got speech problems – you can still be a star like the king!
