I took part in a Diary Writing course

I love to write and draw and was very excited when invited to take part in a Diary Writing course for the DVD release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules.

I love to write stories and write about my family and friends, so this course was perfect for me!

It started off with us picking out our own diaries and decorating the cover to make it ours! I decorated mine with loads of horse stickers on the back and a black and white belt to close it(and keep my annoying brothers out of it). Then we were told to pick a fun thing to write about – something fun I did over my summer break. I wrote about going to camp in America and how I learned to dive.

We then drew pictures side by side, like author Jeff Kinney does for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series and I drew a picture of me at the pool. I love to write and want to be an author when I grow up.

Here are some tips that I picked up about writing in a diary:

- You don’t always need to write – you can draw, use stickers, stencil, etc.

- Be detailed, but keep it fun – writing in your diary should be fun, not a chore

- Talk about things that relate to you

- If you talk about your feelings (if you are sad, happy, etc.) explain what is making you feel that way

- Spelling and grammar doesn’t always need to be correct!

- Pick a place you feel comfortable when writing
