I interviewed England winger Mark Cueto for First News

England winger Mark Cueto took a trip to Rugby School for the finals of the RFU YAZOO National Tag 2 Twickenham tag rugby tournament, ahead of flying out to the Rugby World Cup. Before watching Stanley Junior School lift the cup, Mark took time out to be grilled for First News by Aaron Martin of Bilton School.

I went to Rugby School to interview Sale and England rugby sensation Mark Cueto. It was a quite eventful day because YAZOO’s tag tournament was taking place.

My teacher and I soon noticed Mark playing with the school children. We met him at the pavilion, which is where the school’s cricketers have food between matches.

I was very excited and thrilled to be interviewing a world-class winger. I started my interview by talking about how he became a rugby player. It was very interesting that he grew up in a small school and only started to play rugby at the end of his school years.

I then moved on to Sale and how he got picked for them. The main point he made about his career with Sale was that this season will be better than the last.

The other questions I asked were about the Rugby World Cup, New Zealand’s home advantage and what chance England have. He said the World Cup looks very bright for England and expects New Zealand to be better than they have been in the past. He also said that his legs can’t last for the next tournament, so this is his last chance to become a world champion.

Finally, I asked what he wanted to do when his career has ended. His answer was that he is still thinking about what to do, because he still has three years left to go on his Sale contract.

After the interview my school and I were gifted with a ball signed by Mark himself. Overall, the day was very enjoyable and an inspiration to me.
