I got to drive a real car on a racecourse!

I have always been a big fan of cars, always loved Top Gear and cannot wait to get a car for real when I can get my licence. So, when I found out I would be driving a real car on a racecourse, I was very excited!

I got to Brands Hatch very early, and we got a driver pack containing all the information we need. The instructor gave us a very detailed and helpful safety briefing about what to expect.

It was very exciting to know I was about to drive a real car! I was feeling a little nervous, but also very excited. The instructor showed me what to do in the car and it was all safe.

The first person took his seat, with the instructor making sure everything was safe. After a slightly hesitant start the car was racing down the track. The sound of the motor was unbelievable. I was getting butterflies in my belly – soon it would be my turn. I couldn’t wait!

And then the moment came. I sat in the driver’s seat like I was Jenson Button! I got the engine going, put my hand on the steering wheel, pushed on the accelerator and off we went. It was an amazing experience and time just flew by – I wish it had never stopped.

In and out of cones, learning how to turn properly and how the gears worked. Pushing the accelerator and remembering (now and then) to use the brake!

Throughout the whole time the instructor gave me advice and even said I was a natural born driver.

It is certainly something I shall never forget. I met some great people and had a really good time so I would certainly recommend it to anyone who is interested in driving and who likes racing cars.
