Home schooled kids talk about their learning

Home schooled kids talk about their learning

We are a group of home educated children who read First News as a source of topics for our Discussion Group, and we thought your readers might find it interesting to hear what we get up to!

We feel very privileged and lucky to be home educated because we have great fun while learning – we are able to meet with our friends regularly, and Mum or Dad are never very far away!

We get to do a range of stuff, usually with other children of a mixture of ages. This can be a bit frustrating sometimes, but it can be good to see what people of varying abilities can teach each other.

Some children who attend regular school might think we are a bit “weird” – we don’t have a uniform, which means we wear what fits our personalities, and we have learned to think freely and explore ideas.

We are not sure whether home education would suit everybody: to someone familiar with the school routine, home ed can seem to lack structure, but everyone learns in different ways and home ed accommodates that. There are an estimated 37,000 of us in the UK, so some must enjoy it. We hope you have enjoyed finding out a little about us!
