Hippo kills croc
Crocodiles may be one of the most feared creatures on the planet, but one in the Serengeti got more than he bargained for when he tried to attack a hippo calf.
In something that has never been seen before, the croc slid into the water among a pod of hippos and their calves, who soon huddled together in defence. Instead of getting out of the water the croc climbed onto the hippos backs, where he came face to face with an angry adult. The female clamped her jaws around the croc’s body and dragged him down into the water!
A photographer for BBC Wildlife magazine watched the amazing action unfold when he was filming near the Serengeti’s Orangi River in Africa.
