Haiti still needs your help
The search for survivors among the rubble of Haiti’s earthquake may be over but the work is only just beginning to help the country get back on its feet.
THE search for survivors among the rubble of Haiti’s earthquake may be over but the work is only just beginning to help the country get back on its feet.
From celebrities to charities to children, everyone is doing their bit to help Haiti.
JLS, Leona Lewis and Michael Buble are among the stars singing on Simon Cowell’s Haiti charity single, out this week. The song is called Everybody Hurts and was originally recorded by a band called REM.
Simon said: “The people in Haiti need as much help as we can possibly give them as soon as possible.”
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who asked Simon to organise the charity track, said he thought the single would make a big difference.
In other fund-raising efforts, Madonna and Beyoncé took part in a global telethon to raise cash for the country devastated by an earthquake two weeks ago.
The Hope for Haiti event was shown on all the main TV channels in America and streamed on websites around the world. In the UK, U2’s Bono and The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna, all performed together in London for the telethon.
Celebrities have also been taking part in a special eBay auction by donating items to sell. The auction finishes on Monday 1 February.
