Haiti charity song is number one!

Haiti charity song Everybody Hurts has gone to number one

The Haiti charity single Everybody Hurts featuring Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams, Kylie, Rod Stewart, Alexandra Burke, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Joe McElderry, Cheryl Cole, JLS, Mika, Michael Bublé, James Blunt, James Morrison, Susan Boyle, and Westlife has gone straight to number one in the download charts.

The song, Everybody Hurts, went on sale in shops earlier this week.

REM, the band who originally recorded the song, won’t receive any royalty payments for the single, so more money will go to charity. The two charities which will receive money from the sales of the single are the Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun newspaper’s Helping Haiti campaign.

More than 200,000 people are believed to have been killed by the earthquake which struck Haiti a month ago. Hundreds of thousands more have been left injured
and homeless.

Financial leaders of the richest countries in the world have said they will write off the debts that Haiti owes them so that the country can spend its money on rebuilding and rehoming its people.
