Haiti charity single, Everybody Hurts goes to number 1 and First News says thank you to everyone who helped add to the appeal
The Haiti charity single has gone straight to number one in the download charts.
The song, Everybody Hurts, went on sale in shops earlier this week. A total of 21 stars appear on the single, including Cheryl Cole, members of Westlife, Miley Cyrus, Leona Lewis, Take That, JLS and Mika.
REM, the band who originally recorded the song, won’t receive any royalty payments for the single, so more money will go to charity. The two charities which will receive money from the sales of the single are the Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun newspaper’s Helping Haiti campaign.
More than 200,000 people are believed to have been killed by the earthquake which struck Haiti a month ago. Hundreds of thousands more have been left injured and homeless.
Financial leaders of the richest countries in the world have said they will write off the debts that Haiti owes them so that the country can spend its money on rebuilding and rehoming its people.
How you’re helping
First News wants to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who took part in our wear your own clothes to school day for Haiti last Friday. Don’t forget to tell us how your day went and how much money you raised. Email newsdesk@firstnews.co.uk, putting Haiti as the subject title.
