Groundhog day predictions made

An American groundhog called called Punxsutawney Phil predicted there will be five more weeks of winter on Groundhog day – because he saw his own shadow.

Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, was watched by 12,000 people as he made his annual prediction on Groundhog day.

The century old tradition states that if called Punxsutawney Phil does not see his shadow when he emerges from his burrow in the Western Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney, spring is just around the corner.

However, in New York a groundhog called Staten Island Chuck gave a different prediction when he did not see his shadow.
