Girls want 'boy' jobs

Girls want 'boy' jobs

Forget being a footballer's wife, girls want to do tough jobs.

A new survey has found that girls want more traditional 'boy' jobs when they grow up.

The survey found that girls want to be more like England captain Faye Whitethan than pop star Cheryl Cole.

The Communities and Local Government’s Ordinary People, Extraordinary Careers survey found that one third of girls aged 14-16 want to have a stereotypically ‘male’ job when they’re older. The top career is police officer, followed by footballer, soldier and firefighter. The girls questioned said their number one role model is Cheryl Cole but that doesn’t mean they want to go into show business.

The survey also found that eight out of ten girls think women should be able to do every job and be treated the same as men if they do a stereotypically male job.

The top ten jobs in order are police officer, footballer, soldier, firefighter, electrician, plumber, astronaut, politician, racing driver and pilot.

Who do you think is a good role model? What kind of job would you like when you’re older?

People shouldn't be stereotypical because it is just not right. some people don't think about their jobs thoroughly, e.g. I said when I was younger I wanted to be an artist because I loved art but right now I want to become a doctor. If I said "what gender would you think of when I said doctor?" mainly people think male.

I think you should be allowed to do what ever job you want and it doesn't matter if people say it is a boy job and girls want to do it. Even boys ,if they want to, can do a job more for a girl!
