Girl Guides won World War II
A new book describes how Girl Guides made a difference to the war effort.
How Girl Guides Won the War, by Janie Hampton, recounts how Girl Guides acted as teachers, boosted morale during air raids, gave out gas masks and knitted socks for soldiers. Children who were evacuated from the cities to the countryside became Guides so they had friends to help look after them.
