Four politicians face jail due to their high expenses claims
FOUR politicians could be jailed because police think their expenses claims were dishonest.
Last year hundreds of MPs got into trouble over their expenses, which is money people can claim back that they’ve spent to help them do their jobs. Since then, lots of MPs have had to pay back money and some have quit.
Now three MPs – Elliot Morley, David Chaytor and Jim Devine – and a Peer from the House of Lords, Lord Hanningfield, have been told they have to go to court on 11 March. They say they haven’t done anything wrong and will defend themselves in court.
If they’re found guilty they could go to prison for up to seven years.
