Focus on film with FILMCLUB: We talk to Zac Efron!
FILMCLUB is the exciting after-school activity inspiring young people across the UK to discover the power of film. Here each month young film fans report on the fascinating world of movies and movie-makers.
This month, teen heart-throb Zac Efron talks to FILMCLUB about one of his film inspirations – the legendary film director, Orson Welles.
Zac: Orson Wells is an American icon, and a very important figure in American history – and Broadway. He kind of revolutionised every medium of the time, and it’s a shame not a lot of people know about him other than his later career when he was sort of regarded as a disappointment. This guy was actually a genius, the most ambitious young artist of his generation. And I would love everybody (at FILMCLUB) to walk away with a little bit more appreciation and understanding for what Welles did, what he accomplished and who
he was.
What film would you recommend for Filmclubbers to watch?
Zac: What started my appreciation of film was one that Welles directed called Citizen Kane. That is one that’s fantastic to watch. The use of the camera is very specific, different and incredible. His scope and the depth is really, really fascinating.
FILMCLUB Recommends…
…Citizen Kane (U). The story follows Charles Foster Kane, who has everything he ever dreamed of – talent, money, power and love, so why does this media mogul die unhappy? Set in America in the early 20th century, Citizen Kane is a fascinating mystery story, and is often hailed as the greatest film ever made – a true classic whose story and style still seem as fresh today as they did when it was made in 1941.
Films are great to watch with friends. If you’d like to join the 80,000 school children across the country who are already members of FILMCLUB, ask your teacher to visit www.filmclub.org
