FirstTV is here!

We’re just one week away from the first ever First News online TV show, FirstTV. On 16 July, firsttv.tv will host a show packed with fun, interviews and mayhem. We thought it was time to find out a bit more about our presenters – Emma Pollard and YouTube superstar Charlie McDonnell.

Tell us about FirstTV!

Charlie: FirstTV is very much like First News, but in the form of a TV show… even though it isn’t really a TV show exactly, it’s on the internet, but regardless, it’s still a lot of fun.

Emma: It includes interviews with celebrities, news stories from around the world, music from upcoming bands, a cooking section as well as lots of great competitions.

What can we expect from the four summer specials?

Charlie: Way too much stuff for me to be able to list everything off the top of my head, but I’ll do my best: competitions, guests, world records, emails, news, broccoli and peanut butter soup – we’ve got it all.

Emma: An amazing mixture of things, ranging from interviews with Piers Morgan and Jason Bradbury, to music from The Wanted. And, to top it all off, lots of fun with the twins, Fran and Nic.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Emma: Fun, enthusiastic and caring.

Charlie: Creative, sceptical and honest.

Who would be your dream guests to interview and why?

Emma: Definitely Simon Cowell as I would love to grill him in the same way that he grills people. The 16-year-old girl, Jessica Watson who sailed around the world on her own, would be an amazing person to speak to as I would love to find out about this amazing achievement and her experiences during the seven-month voyage.

Charlie: Prof Brian Cox, a very smart man with a rare ability to make science and the universe easy to understand, and really interesting. I’ve learnt a lot from that guy and I’d love to chat to him properly sometime.

What kind of things would you like to see your fellow presenters doing on the show?

Emma: Well, I would definitely like to see Charlie break more world records. As for the twins, well the interview with Jedward was a treat, so any more weird and wonderful things like this.

Charlie: I’d love to see all the girls have a go at making their own YouTube videos. I’m sure it’d be fun to see what they come up with!

What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

Emma: Well, when I was about six, I have to admit, that I got caught trying to go to the toilet like my brother! I remember being mortified when I was caught by my parents who obviously found it very funny!

Charlie: I used to wet the bed, like, a lot. And not just as a toddler, but right into the start of secondary school. I remember wetting the bed on a school trip once. I used a bottle of water, which I poured all over the already wet area, to cover it up. I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone that story before!

What kind of things do you like to do when you aren’t on FirstTV?

Emma: One of my favourite things is going to watch my football team Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. I have been a fan my whole life and am lucky enough to have a season ticket, which was especially good last season when we won the title!

Charlie: Spending time with friends, playing games, watching films, making video blogs, graphic design and cooking – a new found hobby after working with Ben the FirstTV chef!

What is the naughtiest thing you have ever done?

Emma: Well, I often share clothes with my younger sister which can come in handy. We once had the same top – a really nice one, and I accidentally spilt bleach over it, so it was pretty much ruined. My sister was out at the time so I quickly put the ruined one back in her wardrobe and took the nice one for myself. Then I had to act completely dumb when she found it. Pretty mean I know but in the end I felt so bad that I let her borrow the nice one that I had stolen all the time!

Charlie: I left my mum’s digital camera in France once, and then lied about having lost it. She wasn’t annoyed that the camera had disappeared though, but the fact that I had lied to her was what really got to her. Not too bad though really, I was generally a good kid!
