First Youth Olympics gold medal for Britain
Jade Jones has won Britain's first medal at the first ever Youth Olympic Games.
The 17-year-old Welsh taekwondo star won gold in the -55kg category at the historic event in Singapore.
Jones won her final bout 9-6, as she came up against Vietnam's Than Thao Nguyen. The match went to sudden death, but Jones scored the winning blow with a kick to the head after just six seconds of the start of the extra period.
“It feels amazing," she said. "I can’t explain it, I can’t believe it. You’ve always got a little bit of nerves at the back of your head but I was confident. I knew I could win on my day, but anything can happen. It was so close."
Several other British athletes have qualified for their finals today, although Christine Ohuruogu's younger sister Victoria was disappointed that she didn't make it into the 400m final.
