First News' red panda cub loves his mum
Raymundo, a red panda cub named by First News readers really love his mum…
This photo, by Paignton Zoo volunteer photographer Ray Wiltshire, shows mother Mandy and cub Raymundo lazing on the roof of their den.
Mandy is six and came from Dublin Zoo in January 2008. Father Randy is three-years-old and came to Paignton from Dortmund Zoo in Germany in September 2008.
The pair had two cubs in July which were named Macy and Raymundo by firstnews.co.uk readers in an online poll.
“Our four red pandas are quite active and are showing quite well, especially at the afternoon feed,” said senior keeper Andy Fry. “Raymundo really loves his mum!”
The red panda is classed as Vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, which means it is facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.
