First News interviews Twilight New Moon star Dakota Fanning
Teen actress Dakota Fanning has been a star since she was seven. This week she returns to the big screen to play the scary Volturi vampire Jane in the Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Tell us a bit about your character Jane!
She is kind of evil and mean. I have a special power, which was a very fun thing to have. I am a vampire so have the red eyes which are kind of scary-looking and that was something I was looking forward to. I was in the middle of reading the book series when I got the role. It was fun reading the parts about Jane when I knew that was going to be me!
What did you like about the books?
I just really liked them a lot. I read them in a week, all four, and I really enjoyed them. I enjoyed the first movie and I think everyone definitely will get something from this movie. I think they are really kind of for everyone.
How did you prepare to play Jane?
I met Stephanie (Meyer the author of the books) and it was great to meet her. You read the books and the script and that’s what you use most. Stephanie just talked about when she wrote Jane, what she pictured and that she hoped I fulfilled what she imagined.
Do you have any big action sequences?
A little bit of one, yes. I can’t elaborate on it too much, actually, but there’s a scene involving me and Rob, Kristen, Ashley and all the other Italian vampires. I wasn’t required to do anything really physical, though. In the scene Jane really wants to get Bella. Jane wants to cause her pain so badly and that is really weird because I am really good friends with Kristen and know her so well. To be mean to one another is kind of weird. Her being scared of me was weird, too!
Was it daunting being the new girl on set?
I have never really been the new person coming in before and, especially, because they bonded so much from the first movie. But I wasn’t nervous. I didn’t know what to expect. The only person I had ever met was Kristen, very briefly, but honestly they were the nicest, most welcoming cast and crew and environment and they made me feel comfortable right away. It was no awkward thing and I got right into it straight away.
You’ve been acting since you were small. Is acting what you always want to do?
Oh yes. I know that it is what I want to do for the rest of my life. That’s what I would like it to be but I think everything changes in your life. You have to live your life for the moment and know that some things might not be there forever. I know that you should not take it for granted. I don’t think I ever feel completely secure but I am secure in that I know what I want to do and I think that is the main thing.
What is the weirdest thing you have read about yourself in the tabloids?
I remember a long time ago that someone said that Sean Penn gave me a lizard and then it ran away and he bought me another one! That was very odd! Why would Sean Penn buy me a lizard?!
