England keep hopes alive after outrageous win

A ridiculously exciting victory over the West Indies has kept England in the Cricket World Cup, at least for another couple of days.

England finished on 243, but the Windies looked like they were going to beat that target quite easily. However, four wickets by man of the match James Tredwell and three by Graeme Swann helped England to win by 18 runs.

The West Indies were on 222 for seven at one point, but only managed to get another three runs. A fine throw by Jonathan Trott at the end helped England to take the last wicket with a run out. Trott was also England's top scorer, with 47.

The win means that England are now relying on results going their way in the Bangladesh v South Africa and West Indies v India matches.

England have been heavily criticised for their poor performances so far in this World Cup, although neutrals have been thrilled by their entertaining and dramatic matches.
