England football team will wear poppies

Fifa and the England football team have had a well-documented row about whether it was appropriate for the team to wear embroidered poppies on their shirts.

Fifa, who had originally banned the players from wearing the commemorative flower, claiming kits could not display political, commercial or religious messages, decided to compromise when Prince William and David Cameron personally wrote to them to ask for change.

As a result, England will proudly wear black arms bands, with poppies on them, for their friendly today.
