Elephants are terrified of bees!

Elephants are terrified of bees!

Scientists have discovered that elephants are so scared of bees that they warn other elephants about them by making a rumbling alarm call.

The study was done by Save the Elephants and researchers from the University of Oxford who were studying elephants in Kenya.

They found that when the animals heard the buzzing sound associated with bees, they became distressed and moved away, making a noise to warn the rest of their herd.

They reacted the same way when a recording of buzzing was played, even if no bees were actually around.

Elephants have tough, thick skin but they are still afraid of bees. Baby elephants have delicate skin and can easily be killed by a swarm of bees stinging them, while adult elephants have delicate areas around their eyes and inside their trunks.

The research was part of a bigger plan to find a way to help farmers and elephants live together peacefully. Lots of farmers in Kenya dislike elephants as they can trample their fields and eat their crops. Perhaps playing the sounds of bees could help keep elephants away?
