Dormice halt supermarket
Find out how dormice stopped a supermarket chain...
A dormouse colony has stopped a supermarket being built.
Morrisons supermarket had wanted to build a new store on a local football club’s ground in Wadebridge, Cornwall.
However, nature groups suspect that the area may be home to dormice, a protected species. Even though no dormice have been spotted there, the nearest being seen 2km away.
Stephen Frankel, a spokesman for campaign group Love Wadebridge who is against the supermarket chain building there, said: "These companies are very powerful. They want to ignore us, but it seems they cannot ignore our dormice."
Morrisons have asked ecologist to report back on whether there are dormice in the area.
