Dogs have frost-proof paws
Scientists have discovered that dogs have a special in-built central heating system in their paws.
This helps them to stop their paws from freezing when they walk on frosty ground.
Japanese scientists discovered that dogs' paws have a special circuitry system.
When a paw touches the cold ground, the blood inside it cools down.
However, the veins and arteries in a dog's paw are very close together, so they blood gets warmed up again by the hot blood.
This stops the cold blood from going back into the rest of the body, making the dog freeze or feel very cold!
This means that their feet stay warm at even -35C temperatures!
Penguins and dolphins have a similar system in place to stop their flippers from freezing.
