Could time travel be real?
A scientific experiment buried a kilometre underground has rocked the world of science.
If the latest results are correct, the laws of physics will need to be rewritten – and time travel could be more than just science fiction.
Researchers at the Gran Sasso Laboratory in Italy say that their experiment has measured tiny particles called neutrinos travelling faster than the speed of light. This is a massive event, because one of the core principles of modern physics states that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light (300 million metres per second).
Albert Einstein’s famous theories of relativity rely on the speed of light being unbeatable, so much of modern science would be turned on its head if these results can be repeated in other experiments.
By measuring the time it took for neutrinos to travel through the ground from the CERN laboratory 730km away, the researchers found that the particles had arrived roughly 60 billionths of a second earlier than was thought possible.
If something can travel faster than light, it would mean that an effect could come before a cause – like your nose bleeding before someone hits you – meaning that time travel is in some way possible.
However, most scientists – including those behind the experiment – are suspicious. That’s because it could be that that there is a flaw in the experiment. Other theories suggest
that the neutrinos could be taking a short cut through another dimension.
Top physicist Chang Kee Jung is one of those who is sure that the experiment is flawed. “I wouldn’t bet my wife and kids, because they’d get mad,” he says, “but I’d bet my house.”
Do you think that time travel could be real?

Wow! I wish it could be! That would be AWESOME! The only thing is that there would be a LOT of changing going on, science books rewritten. All I can say is wow...

I really don't want time travel to become reality, because then the world (to me) would become like a sci-fi novel. I think that scientists should stop trying to delve further into the unknown science of the world, or in this case, the past, present and future world, and just be content with the world as it is now. Some boundaries just shouldn't be pushed, and to me, this is one of them.

That would be awsome! You could go back and see the dinosaurs and go and redo your homework and not have to go to school because you could skip straight to the weekend your birthday easter and christmas!

Time Travel CAN be real but lots of planning and though HAS to be put into it to make it work because actaully, if you think about it...ITS IMPOSSIBLE

If time travel were to become real, science fiction would no longer exist as there would be no 'fiction' in it, so we wouldn't have as big an imagination. Anyway, there would be some people who would just use time travel for their own benefit.

It's confusing but it COULD be real!!

It would be great if there was time travel because we could go back in time and stop all the bad things that would happen like wars

Time travel would be awesome - but then there could be huge time-space distortions if you affect anything that happened in the past. That equals BIG PROBLEMS. :D

Awesome that would be cool, because you can do history lessons in time trazl maybe in the B.C years.

It would be cool but I would prefer the world to stay as it is so Sci-Fi would be special as it remains in books. Although, WOW!! 300 million metres a second - if only I could run faster...

It could be possible, but someone could go and screw it up by going and telling Henry VIII's wives not to marry them because they'll be beheaded, and then life could be ruined. It could change the world as we know it.

If this was real in any concept it would be bad, and good. Time Travelling could drastically alter the universe. But, it has it's thumbs up. You could see what happens in the future and what we all turn out to be, and who we turn out to be with.

I would go back and see ancestors or see what it was like in wwII. I would also see if god created the world (i wouldn't need to cos he didn't) Plus I could go back to victorian times and meet the queen.
sarahsun1 (Age 12) wrote on Sunday, 9 October 2011 @ 17:19
That would be very confusing. If it is real then a lot of things could go wrong so I don't think that we should meddle with time. Just keep things the way they are.
