Could lightning in Africa be a sign of rain in Britain?
Meteorologists have claimed that if there's lightning in Africa rain could be on its way in Britain.
The interesting claim is based on research that thunderstorms in eastern and central Africa have an effect on weather in Scotland.
Professor Giles Harrison from the University of Reading said, “A current flows from the tropical thunderstorms into the ionosphere and back down again to regions where there are clear skies.”
He concluded, “It can be thought of as a kind of giant electric circuit looping around the Earth.”
How cool is that?
