Concern over increasing number of manatee deaths
WILDLIFE workers in Brevard County, Florida, are worried about the increase in manatee deaths in the last year.
Statistics up until November showed more than 100 deaths in the last year, although surprisingly not by boat strikes. The high death rate is because of an increase in the sudden death of newborn baby manatees.
Brevard County is a haven for manatees and locals are worried about the species and what is causing the deaths.
The good news is that there has been a huge drop in the number of deaths and injuries caused by boat strikes.
